The Publishers Association Wins ACE Library Bid

The Publishers Association (PA), in association with The Reading Agency, has today seen its proposal for a project to encourage digital skills within libraries win the backing of the Arts Council England’s new Libraries Development Initiative Fund. The Digital Skills Sharing initiative, put forward by the PA and The Reading Agency, will bring publishers and library authorities together to exchange ideas and expertise on new digital marketing programmes.

The Publishers Association Supports Digital Copyright Exchange as Alternative to Law Change

The Publishers Association (PA) has today called for the development of a new online platform that would act as a “one stop shop” for the exchange of information about how to license copyright works online.  Such a Digital Copyright Exchange (DCE) would counteract the need for dangerous changes to copyright law proposed by government in a parallel consultation, the PA argues.

PA International Board Appoints Peter Davison as Chair

The Publishers Association’s (PA) International Board has appointed Peter Davison, Director of Corporate Affairs for Cambridge University Press, as Chair of the group. Peter will take up the position from January 2012. Peter succeeds Simon Littlewood, International Director of Random House. The Publishers Association and the International Board extends its thanks and appreciation for the significant work undertaken by Simon on behalf of the group over the last three years.

PA endorses new British Library International Non-Commercial Document Supply Service

The Publishers Association (PA) has endorsed the new British Library International Non-Commercial Document Supply Service (INCD) for the supply of copies of articles to non-commercial end users via not-for-profit libraries outside the UK, to commence 1 January 2012.  It recommends that PA members should sign up to a direct INCD licence agreement with the BL based on this framework by 29 November

The Publishers Association reports accelerated growth in digital book sales

The growth in revenues from digital book products has accelerated in the first half of 2011, according to the latest figures from The Publishers Association’s data collection scheme.  General consumer ebooks and downloads grew by 623% between January and June, compared with growth of 318% in 2010.  Digital revenues now account for around 7% of the combined digital and physical total.
